Accounting Software Packages

Postby AH7711 » Sun May 22, 2011 9:35 am

Hi there,

I am in the process of buying a small business at the moment and am really delighted that a forum like this exists - I have so many questions and gaps in my knowledge and sometimes it is just hard to figure out who I should ask. I am really hoping Startups.ie will be that for me in the coming months.

Anyway, the first thing I am stuck on is the accounts package I should use and I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations? The current business owner is using QuickBooks 2010 and I just don't know whether I should stick with that or go for another package such as Sage or the Big Red Book. Essentially, I want something simple to use but if I can would prefer to pick the right one now so that when my business becomes hugely successful (!) I am properly set up.
Any help would be welcome.
Thanks!
A.

Hi there,

You probably got sorted at this stage but in case you need help deciding:
I work for Sage and if you like I can organise for you to get a demo of our lower end accounting packages.
Will leave it with you. Best of luck!

I've used TAS Books Basic Free and found it very good when we're just starting out.

The interface is very intuitive and makes managing accounts for the non accountant very simple.

Just make sure you backup your data "off site" (not just on one PC or Laptop) we used Dropbox which is also free :-)

Red Book is best for you. I learn the benefits of it from search engine. Just explore little bit about that and then use it.

Sage Accounting Software has the benefit of Modules. So you can add modules your business needs.

But maybe you wanna stick to the systems the previous owner used?
