Entrepreneurship Programs

Postby martin91 » Wed Aug 11, 2010 8:28 pm

Hi,

I have an idea for a web based venture, but I don't have any experience setting up a new business. Is there any programs out there that help somebody in a position like this? Thanks

Hi There,

To the best of my knowledge the IIA (Irish Internet Association) run pretty relevant courses in this area. I have not been to one with them yet but have been meaning to go. I get the impression that their finger is more on the pulse in this fast moving area (what google likes today might not be what they like tomorrow..). If you become a member the course costs are lower. Are u looking for help in starting a web based biz or a business in general??

I have been looking into this recently as I was hoping in Ireland there would be some incubator programs similar to 'Tech Stars' and 'Y Combinator' in the US.

I have found some but few who deal in the tech space as the above do. Some programs I have found in Ireland are below. If anyone can add to the list it would be great to get a comprehensive list together:

HBAN- http://www.hban.org/index.php/entrepreneurs/
GreenHouse - http://greenhouselimerick.com/
MediaCube - http://www.mediacube.ie/
iGap - http://www.enterprise-ireland.com/en/Fu ... I-GAP.html

NDRC has an accelerator programme, based on the YCombinator model, and we are currently accepting applications.

Our programme - LaunchPad - is a three-month accelerator programme targeted at enabling great people to launch great ideas in the digital space, and we are seeking applications from tech entrepreneurs and start-up promoters in the digital space, with strong research links.

The programme provides individuals or small teams with:
A dedicated environment alongside other start-ups
A hands-on mentoring programme to guide development
Weekly workshops and networkin with the right people
Investment of up to EUR20,000 per project

Send us your application by 5pm on 17th November for a chance to take part.
Applicants will be invited to pitch between 25th Nov - 2nd Dec, and for the successful applicants, the programme will start on 5th January 2011.

For full detail and to download an application form visit http://www.ndrc.ie/launchpad, or contact launchpad@ndrc.ie if you have any queries.

Hi Amy,

This is absolutely great. Good to see an incubator program like this in Ireland.

Can you give any more insight into exactly the selection criteria used. The information on the website is very light touch?
