I am thinking of opening a coffee shop am I mad?

Postby fatpaws » Sat Jul 10, 2010 10:04 am

Hi,
I have been looking at opening a coffee shop for the past number of months. Is this the wrong time to be looking at this sort of business?. Also any advice on choosing the right location and negotiating with landlords would be very helpful,

Many thanks,

FP

Hi FP,

Without knowing the location you have in mind, your personal circumstances etc. it is not possible to assess whether the decision that you are thinking of making is a good or bad one. Any business that fills a need in a specific location and that is well planned has a good chance of suceeding. A coffee shop in Dublin Airport will probably do well, main st. tumbleweed town prob not.

If you are based in Dublin I find owens commercial (www.owenscommercial.ie) a good starting point. It is a great time to be negotaiting rents etc. and there is a load of second hand kit out there. Raising some capital from banks may be getting a bit easier also as they are coming under pressure to lend to small business,

Best of Luck,

Hi FP,

I just read your post and think it's great that you're thinking of opening a coffee shop. As long as it's in a reasonably busy spot and the area hasn't got too many coffee shops at the moment then you'll have a real good chance of making a go at it.
Make sure you shop around for rent prices first but most landlords will be glad that you are showing an interest in the current climate.

Keep us posted on how things are going for you.

Good Luck :)
