Need advice marketing my new business

Postby candlegirl » Thu Jul 15, 2010 10:26 pm

Hi all,

I've just recently set up an online business making personalised candles for weddings, christening, birthdays, anniversaries and any other occasion you can think of. I now have to start marketing the business but to be honest I really don't know much about this sort of thing.
I've heard that facebook and twitter can be a great way to promote a business. Does anyone have any advice on this and how I might go about it. I'm not very big into these social networking sites but from what I've been reading lately they really can make a difference.

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Ursula

Hi Candle Girl,

How is the marketing going? My colleague is all about the social marketing and would be happy to help out if you still require some assistance.

I look forward to hearing from you.

And the best way to improve your business is to identify the target market of the products that you sell, make proper marketing strategy to target the potential audiences and you must be equipped with creative and technical skills of marketing. Ursula,
Hope you have managed to come up with a working marketing solution - just noticed your post from 2008.

Regards facebook & Twitter - sure they are the talk of the town at the moment and if used correctly can be very powerful tools.

one important thing to remember is these toosl are still at a very early stage of public consumptions - if you were to hire a Social media expert (in my opinion DONT - there really is no such thing as a social media expert)
Nobody really has hard facts to back up the crazy stats - having a facebook page increases revenue by 175% - sure that might be correct if you have 3,000,000 followers.

If you are using facebook & twitter you really need to be active within spaces. No point creating a facebook page, posting a few pictures and leaving it at that. You have to engage with your customer base, provide regular update, remind users of what you are doing, new product launches etc.

The same goes for twitter - when posting a message (tweet) it has to have some relevance.
Perhaps create and incentive for people to follow you on both forms - discounts or exclusive availability etc.

If used correctly both facebook and twitter can be powerful marketing platforms but only if used right and you have enough of a market to validate the time and effort put into keeping both up to date.

Hi,

There are various online marketing tasks to do. There are big differences between trying to market your business online and offline. In this virtual world you need to know bit about SEO to succeed in your promotional efforts. Hence any educational course that offers to teach you the Online Marketing techniques should feature an SEO training component. I can say something about Facebook from personal experience; I haven't used Twitter. The main thing about using FB casually is to try to connect with friends who might be customers. So you want people who might buy candles for events such as you describe. What I would do is to do a search for groups that relate to that, and "like" or join them. That will connect you with potential customers.
